Well it might be a bit of a stretch for the title but again I have no idea what I’m talking about here just wanted to continue the whole posting every day bit. Since today in the 30 day anime challenge is gonna be the most epic scene in anime I guess I’ll talk about what scenes I consider epic. I don’t know, I think a lot of things could be in that category but I’ll just start with my answer to this.
Day 19 – Most Epic Scene Ever
So with having to have 2 days on one blog because I skipped a day we are now on day 19 and I have to think really hard about scenes I define as “epic” I honestly haven’t used that word in a while besides when describing an epic like The Odyssey or you know old greek epics. What defines an epic scene though? Is it when a character does the unthinkable and succeeds or something just large scale? A whole glorious battle scene? Would that be epic? I know epic is a word to describe something spectacular or awesome and it started to be an overused word but I’ll try to see what I can come up with. I want to say something from Samurai Champloo or Cowboy Bebop. The one thing that especially comes to mind is Berserk but I kind of plan to bring that up later. I also did mention a character from Berserk previously being the best villain so maybe I won’t bring it up. I’ll be honest while thinking about epic scenes an anime I just finished recently just came up in my head, I think I’ll review that tomorrow….Sorry I really just now spaced out and thought about that. Alright I’m just gonna name a scene from an anime I thought was awesome and I actually go back to it a lot although it’s kinda messed up I thought it was really cool.
Tokyo Ghoul – Torture Scene and Final Fight of Season 1
So I figured I would mention a show I have not said anything about yet and that is Tokyo Ghoul. Maybe I’ll do a review later because I did watch the anime and read the manga. The manga kinda pissed me off but I’m going to try and avoid spoilers when describing the scene the goes down here. Basically this is from episode 12 and it’s pretty brutal the whole episode is Kaneki getting tortured which I guess it’s a spoiler saying he gets tortured but anyway without saying specifics he is brutally tortured and he has a monologue go on in his head that basically presents itself as a conversation. It’s basically this whole talk about what you would have to do to protect the ones you love where Kaneki starts to finally see what he has to become to protect everyone and a lot is learned about Kaneki. That’s what I loved about this series though I thought Kaneki was awesome, I was really drawn to his character though I guess that kind of character is often there. Anyway yeah he becomes a ghoul and a final battle for that season happens with the opening playing which is one of my favorite anime openings by the way so it made it more “epic” I just thought it was really cool with the realizations and thoughts about what it takes to protect the ones he cares about. When Kaneki is living in that kind of world with ghouls he has to embrace his ghoul side in order to survive and protect the ones he loves. I don’t know I thought it was a cool scene.
Tokyo Ghoul is great in my opinion I know a lot of people didn’t really like it. I thought the second season was kind of eh but honestly I liked the ending of the second season a little better than the manga ending which I know there’s a sequel manga but until someone tells me I should read it I’m not touching that.
The only other scenes I can think of that I absolutely thought were epic is there’s a scene with Mugen in Samurai Champloo where just the motion of him limping towards someone and cutting down a person who runs at him even though Mugen is slowly moving he still takes the guy out. I don’t want to spoil anything so if you’ve seen the show you know what I’m talking about. It’s actually the scene that made me watch the show. The first season of Code Geass had a pretty crazy ending with all this shit going down. I remember that giving me chills because really shit hit the fan at the end of that first season. Then there’s Cowboy Bebop that also had a crazy ending scene with Spike going into a big all out shootout. I don’t have much else to say because thinking about a specific scene and what would be classified as awesome is kind of hard for me. Especially since I started watching more romance, School life type anime shows. I mean the change in pace is kind of nice every now and then. Anyway that’s gonna do it for today. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you tomorrow so goodbye for now!
